What's happening at the Blaauwklippen Family Market this December 2017
November 30, 2017
Soon there will be a delicate twinkle of lights amongst the trees on the yard of Blaauwklippen Estate. The gentle dusk air will carry laughter of children and the happy barking of our furry friends while small kid goats frolic in the pen and the owls hoot shyly from the old fig trees.
Summer welcomes us to evenings of joy, love and laughter. She invites us to renew and rekindle relationships with family and friends.
03 DECEMBER – ANTIQUE FAIR
We are excited to welcome a new artist to the Blaauwklippen Family Market fold. Chris Rain’s repertoire of well-known songs, both in English and Afrikaans, promises to be a favourite with many of visitors. Visit him on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11sCDC7w99o to whet your appetite.
It is also time for our Antique Dealers to dust and display their exciting and unique ware; shake their feathers in anticipation of your visit. They enjoy talking to our visitors and explain where their beautiful items come from; and, love listening to you and your memories of days long gone past.
With the Twilight Market only 9 days away, it is maybe a good idea to start browsing here and there for the odd little gift. Stunning little dresses by Janet Hockly and the cutest leather shoes at the Cute Mad stall. There’s some leather handbags and art; beautifully crafted steam-punk lamps and delicate jewellery. Take some time to watch Iftah, the Israeli, craft his jewellery at the market – he can also design something very special for you from your old pieces of jewellery!
Our artist for the day will be Mr Brown who is back for the second time at Blaauwklippen Family Market! For you who haven’t heard this guy perform yet, this isn’t something to be missed.
17 DECEMBER – DOGGY WALK
Only two days to the Twilight Market!
So there’s quite a bit of sniffing and yelping and barking going on, hey? Well, what else can one expect on the Doggy Walk Sunday? Bring your best friend, roommate or comrade in arms for a walk amongst the vineyards. All this for a very good cause since your fee of R 20 will go towards the Helderberg AWS – those friendly people at the little table close to the entrance. Since it is the time for giving and sharing, maybe you would like to bring a bag or packet of dog food and drop it off at that very same little table.
Speaking of food – you will have much to choose from once lunch time approaches. Visit the new potjiekos guy for a selection of potjies such as oxtail and venison. There’s delicious pizza as well as a relative which ’looks like one but isn’t’. We talking about the rare but delicious flammkuchen, of course.
Vegans, we also cater for you! Wraps to make your mouth water. Salads and fresh fruit juice; for the daring, try some Mexican fair and for the more delicate palate we offer delicious Sicilian delicacies – all this and so much more.
Harry Curtis with his crowd-favourite repertoire will most certainly have your feet tapping and some people even doing a bit of dancing!
19 - 23 DECEMBER – TWILIGHT MARKET
The time has arrived to follow the avenue of twinkling lights to the Market Square. The Twilight Market starts at 4pm and continues till 9pm for the following 5 days.
With the number of regular Sunday stalls much increased, you will have a fair selection of goodies, food and drink to choose from. Do some shopping to fill a few little holes in the Christmas stocking; give yourself a break from supper preparation and have your meal at the market.
Carols by Candle Light will be held on 21 December. We are very excited to introduce The Oak Trio and Annette Kemp (vocalist) for this event, to you. These girls who perform on cello, flute and keyboard will bring some copies of both English and Afrikaans carols. Join us at dusk (7:30pm) under the Western Cape skies for this very special occasion.
Blaauwklippen Estate will offer some of their wines at bargain prices for the duration of the Twilight Market.
This will be the usual Sunday market from 10am till 2pm – the traders would also like to go home early for Christmas Eve, you see.
Do some last-minute shopping or simply relax on the lawns or in the shade of the wild fig trees. Unwind and watch the world go by. Listen to the hits of the 80s and 90s, with a hit of a bluesy undertone, by Ricky Nass.
What better way to end the year than with Newton Theron! Come and enjoy his enthusiastic performance of popular songs at the Blaauwklippen Family Market.
With the last evening of 2017 a few hours away, find some delicacies to take home; maybe some wine, as well.
We wish to thank all our regular guests and the occasional ones, too, for your loyal support. Thank you for making Blaauwklippen Family Market what we envisioned it to be: a place to meet and make friends; a place to support local producers and entrepreneurs.
Most of all: thank you to so many of you who have become our friends!
