Mother Nature is clearly confused this year judging by the strange occurrences on the farm! Not only are some of the beautiful old oaks already clad in gentle green little leaves but there is complete and utter mayhem in the paddock next to the Carriage House. We welcomed no fewer than six little goat kids during the second last week of July. They bounce around and pounce on just about anything that moves!
Mother Nature being confused...
The Market has also experienced most Sundays under glorious blue skies during July because the rain stayed away and waited for the weekdays to fill the dams in and around the Western Cape. Rain that is much needed and for which we, along with the farmers, are very grateful. On behalf of the traders, we would like to thank each and every one of you for your amazing and continued support throughout winter.
With spring only a month away, we are happy to present the following activities during August:
All is not gold that glitters but boy, there are some beautiful trinkets on display at the monthly Antique Fair. This event, which is organised by Me Barbara Collins, always takes place on the first Sunday of the month and has become a firm favourite with our visitors to the market. One can just stand back and admire the large variety of objects the avid collectors have found. There is Martin with the most unusual collection of envelopes addressed to former Prime Ministers; medals as well as coins of all kinds. You will be dazzled by the jewellery – both precious metals and wonderful pieces of costume jewellery. For collectors of unusual ceramics, glassware and crystal, rest assured there will be something for you too. This treasure trove of collectables you will find in the Carriage Museum.
Songstress, Lize Mynhard, is back! Lize has become known for her soothing voice, yet her selection of song is vibrant, making for a lively atmosphere at the market.
Early morning scenes at the market
We are happy to welcome Newton Theron back to the Blaauwklippen Family Market stage. While you enjoy the soothing and cosy light spring sunshine, either under the old wild fig trees or on your picnic blanket on the lawns where you can keep a lazy eye on your children, Newton will entertain you with his lively rendition of well-known and favourite songs. His interaction with his audience is entertaining and appreciated by so many of the guests at the market.
It’s time to endure a noisy ride to the market for your dogs know only too well that they are on their way to the barking; sniffing-of-strange-things; meeting old as well as making new friends, monthly Vineyard Doggy Walk in aid of Helderberg Animal Welfare. It has now been near on 5 years since this charity has joined us and had their Doggy Walk, once a month, at Blaauwklippen Family Market. We would like to thank them for what they are doing for lost or abandoned dogs and cats. It’s arguably not only one of the most selfless jobs that there is but they try their best to care and find new homes for so many of our furry friends under very trying, challenging conditions. Please support the Helderberg Animal Welfare and now and then, and when you can, consider making a donation of either food or in cash. Entry to the Doggy Walk is R20 per person and dog. Because it can still sometimes still be a little chilly early in the morning, the walk only starts at 10h00.
The market will definately tickle your senses
We “rediscovered” a blast from the past last month. Ricky Nass had the market buzzing with excitement. With compliments being dished out left right and centre by both traders and guests, we were left no other choice but to ask him for another energising performance. To this, he happily obliged – so don’t miss this performance!
We are excited to announce the return of the traders of the Revolution Food Fair to the market for the fourth time this year. They will showcase various products related to the Banting/ LCHF lifestyle. With summer only a month or two away, it might be just the thing for you to experience.
Join us any or every Sunday for a relaxing day in the company of family or friends. Enjoy nature; fresh air and relax before the week knocks us sideways again. Browse and treat yourself or somebody you care for, to something special.
