We have a busy and exciting month planned for you at the market this April. We are constantly looking for ways to make each visit to the market memorable for all therefore there are some new and exciting events taking place during April. First of all, we will be presenting an “Open Mic” when we will give amateur musicians the opportunity to perform at the market. After the performance, we will post the videos on Facebook and ask the public to vote for their favourite performer. About two months ago, Louise and Trudie of Trail Kids SA, approached us with the idea of hosting one of their events at the market. We happily agreed to welcome them to the “Family” and set a date for April. More on these exciting events later.
We kick off the month of April with a performance by Pieter and Eugene of Bandana! Yes, that’s right - the two guys who wear brightly coloured bandanas during their performance.
Ms Barbara Collins and her fellow traders of the Antique Fair at the Blaauwklippen Family Market, will be back inside the carriage museum. Ms Collins informed us that a couple of new traders came on board with all sorts of interesting collectables from jewellery and ceramics to glassware and memorabilia from days long gone past.
As mentioned earlier, we will have our first “Talent Search” or, as we would like to call it, Open Mic Day at the market. Because we are inundated with applications from musicians who would like to perform at the market, we sometimes find it difficult to decide who to book and which musician would please the crowd the most.
Hosting an "Open Mic Day" has therefore become an exciting solution to the problem. This day will give aspiring musicians an opportunity to perform one set at the Blaauwklippen Family Market. A video recording will be made of the set which will posted on social media. The public will be asked to vote for the musician whom they have enjoyed the most. The winning musician will win a paid-for performance at the market. For more information regarding this exciting concept and how to apply, please click here.
“That musician with the impressive beard”, Newton Theron, is back! Newton has been performing at the market consistently for well over two years. His enthusiastic rendition of popular songs always creates a vibrant atmosphere at the market!
As it is the third Sunday of the month, we are more than happy to welcome back our furry, and not so furry, friends from the Helderberg Animal Welfare Society for our monthly Vineyard Doggy Walk. Please note that the walk will start at 10h00 as the mornings are already a bit cooler, which means it is better suited to the furry ones to start the walk a little later. Entry to the walk is R20 per person and dog. All proceeds will go towards the charity. If you would like to participate in the walk but do not have a four-legged friend, do not despair as you can walk one of the stays from the Shelter. Visit their website for more information.
We are thrilled to announce a new initiative at the market this month. The people of Trail Kids SA will be joining us for the first time at the market. In short, Trail Kids, is a fun initiative to encourage the entire family to become more active and to enjoy the outdoors.
Since Trail Kids like to tie a theme to their event, our first run will be called a “Rainbow Run” in celebration of Freedom Day on 28 April 2016.
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet... The choice is yours - dress up in your brightest and join us for a colourful morning of an outdoor family fun at the market. Enjoy a session of warm ups with Kinect Kids and an inspirational talk before you run/walk either the 2.5 or 4.5kms trail which are suitable for sturdy prams. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are more than welcome to join their owners for a brisk run! Lots of prizes can be won by participants of the Rainbow Run. Entry is R40 per person and under 2s walk for free. So, register online to ensure you don't miss out on the pot of smiles at the end of the Rainbow Run.
For more information on the run and where to register, visit the events page of Trail Kids SA on Facebook.
The buzz of this day doesn’t end here for the musical favourite of guests and traders alike, Stuart, will be taking the stage to perform his popular selection of toe-tapping hits from the 60s and 70s.
