Here in Stellenbosch, summer is slowly drawing to a close in March for the vineyards will soon hale autumn when the leaves of the vines don their vibrant colours of yellow, red and brown. March is such a beautiful month – the grapes have been harvested; the first school term of the year winds down; Easter will be celebrated and it is the first school holiday of the year. Difficult to believe but….. oh well, time waits for no man.
But, here at the market we remain busy for we have a month jam-packed with all kinds of activities. Join us for the last of the balmy, lazy Sundays in the sun or shade!
Stuart, one of our favourite artists, will be performing a 60s and 70s hits with his usual enthusiasm. Many of you will know that he performs non-stop and has an entertaining rapport with his audience.
The once-a-month Antique Fair will be held at the market yet again. A large number of stallholders will have their interesting wares on display in the Carriage House where you may browse at leisure. You never know when you might find a precious, unique object or maybe just something that has been missing from your collection. There are a large number of traders with very interesting jewellery; some with medals and old coins; others with beautiful porcelain and glassware. Brick-a-brack, to boggle the mind.
Aha! The day of the four-leaf clover and Leprechauns! The day of the Irish! On this Sunday we will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. So, come visit and enjoy the bonhomie of the Irish; their wit and humour. Maybe you would like to wear something green in celebration of the day?
The band that will be performing is the Shenanigans. And, with a name like that, what more can you expect than a day filled with laughter and fun. Their lively renditions of well-known songs have always been a firm favourite with guests.
Come join the Animal Welfare on our monthly Doggy Walk. You will hear much sniffing and panting amongst the vines and smart, happy tails waving about in the air. There is nothing more pleasant than an early morning stroll along the little gravel footpaths in the vineyards with your very best friend. The crisp, cool, fresh air and sparkling dew on the grass and vines in the first rays of the sun is just what you need to relax while providing a bit of support for a very worthy cause. You will have to pay R20 (which goes towards the AWH) for your walk while your dog may walk for free.
Live music will be provided by Dirkie & Talisa who really know their stuff and always have the guests at the market singing along with great gusto.
And so we reach the end of the month on this special day of Easter Sunday. It is that pleasant long weekend so Monday, for many, will still be a day of relaxation. Bring your friends, relatives from up-country who are visiting for a unique outdoor experience. For the little ones - all those younger than 12 - there will be an Easter Egg Hunt. Watch out for the Easter Bunny with his large pink ears who will also be at the market to help the little ones from 11h00 with the hunt which is FREE, of course.
Our performer for the day will be Newton Theron – a guy who needs no introduction to many of our guests who enjoy not only his performances but also his lively interaction with his audience.
We are looking forward in welcoming you at the market this month!
